The Ghost in the Night Dress

Every night I met with a ghost in a night dress.

You could barely see her face. Each night she told me a different story about the life she lived. She had goals, a social life, and people that loved her. She remembers moments in her life, but not her own name. Every story she told did not reveal her fate.

When I first moved into my home, the ghost in the night dress revealed herself to me in ways to frighten me. I understand. I was invading her space. She would move the nozzle in my shower to cold. She would knock plates off the counter. She would flicker the lights. She would keep me up at night in fear.

For a while, I thought I was going crazy. I was purposely ignoring the signs. I didn’t have time to be scared of a ghost. I just moved into this house and moving is a lot of work.

After a while, I didn’t think I was going to be able to stop. Knowing I was never going to be able to say sorry and I was never going to see this person again was a horrible feeling that just sat in my stomach. I felt like I couldn’t breathe.

All of the sudden, I felt a cold hand on my shoulder. I tried to ignore it. I was too sad to be scared. This ghost that I was in denial of is not only real, but is now…
